Scott Amendolaro rated this item 5 out of 5 It is winter time in Florida and time to put the pool to rest for the season. I decided to purchase the Waterstars NL Pool Fountain to enable me to still relax by the pool even if I wasn’t using it.
Assembly:
The good news is that the Waterstars comes practically fully assembled all you need to do is to connect the hose and choose a fountain head. You have two choices of fountain heads, the morning glory is like a glass bubble and the 3-tier is just as its name suggests a 3 level fountain.
The only real work involved is the installation of the universal wall fitting. Now before you purchase this please be aware that you will need a threaded 1 ½ inch return line (This is where the water jets water back into the pool). In my case I had 3 return Jets and only one of them was threaded. I did not have a choice where to install mine but here are some tips for those of you that do have a choice. Check the Water pressure of the return. I only had one threaded connection and it happened to be at the “End of the line” which did not have as much pressure as the others. The closer you are to your pump the better pressure you will see and the better the fountain will work.
The Fountain is stabilized by a rock filled plastic anchor (you supply the rock). If you install your fountain where the pool floor is at a drastic incline the anchor will travel and not work properly. If you “MUST” have it there you may need additional weight or place the anchor outside of the pool on the deck if possible.
When you have chosen the return line you simply unscrew the existing Eyeball fitting and screw in the universal wall fitting. The Waterstars hose is a “Quick connect” so it is very easy to connect and disconnect it to the fitting.
*** DO NOT CONNECT THE FOUNTAIN OR FITTINGS WHILE THE PUMP IS RUNNING ***
Operation and adjustments:
When the Waterstars is assembled turn on the pool pump and adjust it to the height you like.
If the fountain is shooting too high there are two adjustments which can be made. On the hose where the connection to the wall is made is a know which will reduce the pressure and control the height of the fountain, Normally this should be enough, If you happen to have “Exceptional” water pressure there is an included flow restrictor washer which can be installed which will bring the pressure down to a rate that the pressure knob can regulate properly.
If you have a situation (like mine) where there was not enough water pressure to get the fountain to the desired height here is what worked for me. First make sure your filter, filter basket and pump basket are free of debris. If this does not solve the problem you can turn the Eyeball sockets of the other water jets sideways. As you turn them the water flow is restricted through them and pressure to the fountain will increase.
Opinion:
Overall the fountain works better then expected. The sound is very pleasing; I can also watch the fountain through my Bay Window in the kitchen. I even caught the neighbor’s kids leaning over our fence just staring at it whooping and hollering…
My fountains placement is just in front of the pool light. This fountain is not lighted but since the base is clear it does carry some light through if lighted from underneath. I am experimenting to see if I can add another light source. I will let you know how it goes...
